Bright Local Schools awarded over $1 million literacy grant to support student achievement

Bright Local School District is proud to announce it has been awarded the Comprehensive Literacy State Development (CLSD) Grant in the amount of $1,091,793.51 by the Ohio Department of Education. This competitive grant is designed to strengthen literacy development for students from birth through grade 12 by enhancing instructional practices, professional development, and family engagement.
Superintendent Jason Iles expressed immense pride and enthusiasm about what this funding will bring to the district.
“This grant will have a direct and lasting impact on our students, staff, and community. It will allow us to expand access to high-quality literacy instruction, provide vital professional learning opportunities, and improve interventions and supports across all grade levels,” said Iles. “It’s an exciting time to be a Wildcat.”
The grant supports Bright Local’s ongoing commitment to student growth and aligns with the district’s strategic plan to ensure every student, every day receives access to rigorous academics and personalized support.
Key initiatives supported by the CLSD Grant include:
• Enhanced professional development for educators in evidence-based literacy practices;
• Structured intervention programs to assist struggling readers;
• The addition of high-quality materials and technology to support instruction; and
• Expanded family and community engagement efforts.
A comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to ensure all students receive what they need to thrive
Bright Local’s literacy plan was the result of months of collaboration between district leaders, teachers, specialists, and community partners. Superintendent Iles credited the dedication of his team in securing this opportunity.
“This was a true team effort,” he said. “Special thanks to Ms. Lee, Ms. Shelton, Ms. Beresford, Mr. Gauche, Mrs. Gobin, Mrs. Emery and the entire Bright Local staff who contributed to this application. Their commitment to literacy and student success helped make this possible.”
The CLSD funding will be implemented over the next several years, starting in the 2025–2026 school year.
